Hit the ground running!

sunny 4 °C

We hit the ground running in Munich. Arrived Thursday arvo, were in our first pub by 6.00 and we were waiting for our first pick up on Friday morning at 8.30am ready for our trip to the Bavarian castles. So we waited and waited and eventually after emails and phone calls decided they had forgotten us! Not daunted we set off on our own to visit mad King Ludwigs Castle. Halfway there on the train we got a phone call from a hugely apologetic tour guide who had indeed forgotten us - best thing that could have happened as they then picked us up at the station, shouted us coffee and a free horse sleigh ride and we managed to get to everything! Win for us.
Mad King Ludwigs castle was indeed fabulous as was Hohenschwangau, really enjoyed the tours and the 6000 steps up. Nothing like a cool crisp day with the smell of a kransky barbeque and a ride down the mountain on the horse sleigh.
We thought Oberammagau just like jindabyne - overpriced tourist crap for sale - but it was definitely prettier.
We got our driver Franz to drop us off at the Augustinner Brewery for dinner (after he had peeled our white knuckled grip off the car ( nothing like tripping down the autobahn at 160 - 170 km!)
A great night in the brewery - would hate to be here in the October month!
We shared a table with 3 deaf germans and 3 russians from Georgia - who could not speak english so between the 9 of us there was more sign language going on than at the national deaf convention.
Bavarian food is lots of stodge and lots of meat! with a side of bier!
We are off this morning to the Nymphemberg palace and then on to the football (soccer) to watch Bayern Munich - will see how we go in a stadium with thousands of crazed football fans

And so we begin.....

To Munich!

Join Mel, Manda and I on the ultimate bucket list quest to discover the secret of the Souks, the largest crab in the Arctic, the fastest dog sled, and the (hopefully) fabulous lights of the Aurora Borealis. Will we find the Wolf? the Moose? the Polar Bear? Can we manage the Schnapps, the Vodka and the Riesling? (yes) Will we come back? Keep reading!
